Headache, Hives, & Home-Buying

The three H’s… headache, hives, and home-buying… 3 things currently on my mind and (apparently) worthy of their own blog post.

Why do I have a headache right now? Since becoming pregnant, the frequency and intensity of my headaches has totally calmed. I’ve developed quite a winner while at work this morning and it certainly isn’t helping my mood.

I regret skipping coffee this morning, but told myself I was going to be much better about my coffee habit this week since last week was OUT OF CONTROL. I think I can get through this one without it… but where’s my Tylenol?

In a stroke of genius, I decided to change up my belly-moisturizing routine just for the hell of it. Total mistake. I had been using Vitamin E oil and it seemed to be working nicely. No complaints. For whatever reason, I decided to try something new when I ran out.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Tummy Butter was my choice. I had used it for several days and have been happy with it, but noticed myself being extremely itchy on Saturday. For the better part of the day I blamed it on being outside, allergens in the air, blah blah blah. Called the OB nursing line Saturday evening when I was scratching myself to death and was told to take Benadryl or use Benadryl cream.

After a very deep sleep Saturday night with a dry belly (I eliminated all products from my nighttime routine in hopes of calming the hives) and woke up feeling pretty good and much less blotchy  Sunday morning. Got ready for church, greased up my belly with the butter, and out we went. Over the course of the day, the hives returned with full red-blotchy vengeance.

I can’t believe it, but I am surely allergic to this Tummy Butter. Ugh… I hope my child doesn’t inherit my sensitive skin!

The home-buying process is going well, I suppose. We’re under contract on a house that is under construction and will be finished in June. There isn’t much for us to do between now and then besides save our money for closing costs.

I’m not a worrier by nature (yet… I’m sure I will change after baby is born), but I am a financial forecaster. I think I made up that word. I take care paying our bills and am always thinking ahead. Having a savings goal that we must meet before closing is stressful. I am so thankful to be living with my parents for the next several weeks while the house is finished, which is allowing us to not pay rent, utilities, cable/internet, etc… but it is still hard.

Maybe I’m just worried about that $429 travel system we registered for at Babies R Us?

Maybe, just maybe, I’m over-thinking things and making my headache, hives, and the home-buying process even worse. 🙂

Weekend in Photos: Hillary’s Beach Wedding

I’ve been pretty quiet on WordPress lately, mainly because I’ve been busy. I am so excited to share with you my excuse!

Last Thursday, a friend and I packed our bags for Grayton Beach, Florida to witness our beautiful friend Hillary get married. This was a quick trip (we were home by Sunday evening), but was worth every single mile. Mr. and Mrs.  Reid both looked absolutely stunning on the sandy white beaches!! This was definitely a wedding and a trip to remember. Enjoy the photos!

Again, please remember… I’m no professional 🙂

Congrats Hillary & Dustin! I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Weekend in Photos: Watermelon Festival

We took a weekend getaway to my in-laws in Arkansas to attend their annual Watermelon Festival. The hubby and I headed down south after work and spent a lazy weekend with family. We attended the festival on Saturday evening and took a couple photos at the local spring house. Enjoy!

We had a great weekend and caught up on our rest! I took two naps yesterday – after sleeping in until 10 a.m. – I must have been tired.

House update: The Realtor text me on Friday evening while we were traveling to tell me that he spoke with the owner and if there is no contract on the house by this Friday, he would be happy to rent it to us. Happy dance!!! Since there are no offers on the house right now we are feeling pretty confident that everything will go smoothly. We can’t wait for this house to be our home! We talked this morning about how the picture window in the living room is the perfect place for our Christmas tree. I’m also thinking about renovations if we decided to buy the house down the road. House love is real, folks.

Other stuff: Today is our second anniversary! It seems like much longer and much shorter than two years. Isn’t it weird how that works? We spent over half of our second year of marriage living apart while J was on rotations. So crazy and really tough! But, we made it and our relationship is much stronger. We are planning to have dinner (and a stroll around the mall – hubby knows how to make me happy 🙂 ) tomorrow. This whole weight loss/exercise thing has taken over my life so much that J knew that we should wait and have our date tomorrow because tonight is Zumba. How funny! (Plus, we need to spend this evening catching up on laundry, etc. after being gone all weekend.)

I ate ridiculously bad this weekend – I’m talking chips and dip, cheesecake, biscuits and gravy… and need to make up for it with healthy eating this week. Here’s to another week and embarking on our third year of marriage. Cheers!

Weekend in Photos: WW & W

Happy Sunday! I just returned from my 2nd trip to Wichita, unpacked, and am settling down for the night. I thought I would type up a quick post about our weekend highlights.

As you may have guessed, one of the W’s in the title of this post represents Wichita. Jeremy finished his first week at his new rotation and I drove out west after work on Friday to visit.

Don’t travel west unless you have a great pair of sunglasses. The sun is killer!

The other set of W’s stands for Weight Watchers. I started Weight Watchers online with Sydney on Friday. I am so excited about this new adventure and am hopeful that it will bring some serious changes. I plan on doing some weekly updates and will share tasty recipes. More on this later…

Jeremy and I were ridiculously happy to see each other on Friday! Being together all the time for a couple months had spoiled us big time and to be honest, this first week apart was hard. When I got to Wichita Friday evening we made dinner in his hotel room and enjoyed TV and laughs! I made a 12 pointsplus dinner: Chicken breast, brown rice, and seasoned frozen veggies. Yum! We both loved it.

On Saturday, we slept in and had a late brunch. I had fresh fruit because it’s 0 points! Whoop whoop! Jeremy studied for a few hours while I caught up on Project Runway and some of my favorite YouTube beauty channels. We headed out for dinner at Olive Garden. You’re probably thinking that I’m crazy for going to carb-heaven one day after starting a new eating plan. That’s where the Weight Watchers app comes in to play. It’s loaded with restaurant menu listing with points values. Super helpful and helped guide my meal. I had Lasagna primavera, with salad and a couple breadsticks! I was ridiculously full. We spent the evening catching up and watching episode after episode of Modern Family.

We made a trip to Starbucks to start our Sunday. I had a tall Skinny Caramel Macchiato and it was delicious and totally worth 3 points! I don’t think I’ll ever go back to just have a regular caramel macchiato because I liked the skinny version so much better. We took a trip to Wichita State, where we happened upon the Original Pizza Hut! How cool is that?

It was a super windy day, hence the hood!

We finished this weekend’s Wichita adventure at On The Border, a chain Tex-Mex joint. I hadn’t been to one in years and holy moly it was just as tasty as I remember! Again, the WW app had all the info I needed to order a points-friendly meal. I chose the lunch portion of the grilled chicken fajitas, but didn’t use tortillas. There was one problem, I did indulge in chips and salsa… for a whopping 11 points! Yikes! I planned the rest of my meals accordingly and it was totally worth it! Jeremy had never been to OTB and he really enjoyed his meal!

It was another tearful Sunday afternoon goodbye as I left for Missouri. Next weekend, my husband will come to me! However, he’s leaving for Brazil on Saturday. More details on that later!

Random Thoughts/The Week Ahead:

  • Let me know if you’re interested in hearing even more about WW. I don’t want to over-post about it! This evening I’m going to pour through the app and add items to the built in grocery list. I’m heading to the store tomorrow to pick out the ammo I need to kill it this week 🙂
  • Our friends Kelsey and Andrew welcomed little Bryson into the world last week. For her shower gift, I told Kelsey I would paint a sign with Bryson’s birth stats to hang in his nursery. I’m going to start that project this week. Look for a tutorial post later.
  • I ended up ordering 9 more Coastal Scents eyeshadows when they were on sale for 99 cents a piece! I’m dying for those to be shipped. I can’t remember what colors I ordered, so it will be a surprise opening the package. Look for a swatches post. Can’t wait!

As always, thanks for reading!

Weekend in Photos: Allen Wedding

This weekend was a busy one! Unfortunately, I’ve been battling iPhone 5 battery issues and failed to take as many photos as I would have liked.

Saturday, February 1st was Nick & Sydney’s wedding. We started the celebration with a rehearsal at the Mansion at Elfindale and feasted on Rocco’s Pizza. Then, the bridesmaids and the bride made a trip to the WORLD’S LARGEST CVS STORE!! We purchased numerous lip products, eyeliner, lashes, and eyeshadows from a variety of brands including Khroma Beauty (the Kardashian’s line). I plan to do a post on a few new faves! Sydney booked the most gorgeous hotel suite in Springfield for our night-before-the-wedding festivities. We drank wine, ate candy, and tested our new makeup!

After 6-7 hours of sleep, we woke up on Wedding Day ready to get things done. I failed to take a ton of photos from the event, but here are a few. I cannot wait to see more photos from Regina Richards Photography.

I was surprised at work yesterday morning with this gorgeous flower arrangement! Jeana (my manager) brought them into my office and I looked up from my work and said, “Well those are pretty! Where did we get those?” She laughed and said they were delivered for me!

It was a simple card from Jeremy to remind me that he loved me. I had a huge lump in my throat and I had to fight back the tears.

I haven’t seen him since August 26th and he made me feel so special on a regular old Wednesday morning from over a thousand miles away. Such a sweetie!

Sidenote, he tried as best he could to send the same flowers that we had in our wedding. He text my mom to ask what they were and did as best as he could to find orange calla lillies. The dark orangey red where about as close as anyone could get, because the orange ones are rare. The arrangement ever had the berry things that Jeremy’s boutonniere had. Melt my heart!

Then, as the day went on and I stared at the flowers that I placed on a bookshelf across from my desk I started thinking about all the times Jeremy has given me flowers – which isn’t a whole lot really, so that’s probably the reason why I remember!

Memory #1: Valentine’s Day my senior year of high school. It was actually the day before Valentine’s and we had a snow day so I was at home in my PJs. There was a knock on the door which totally freaked me out because I’m a scaredy cat! I peeked out the peep hole and saw a flower delivery person. Say what? It was a dozen roses from my boyfriend. The handwritten card said that he loved me everyday, Valentine’s or not. His original plan was to have them delivered to me at school because I would feel more special having them the day before every other girl got flowers on V-Day.

Memory #2: Date night my freshman year of college. I worked at the car dealership during my first two (ish) years of college and Jeremy would stop by sometimes after he got off work at the law firm. (How grown up do our jobs sound?). Occasionally he would meet me in the parking lot when I got off at 7 p.m. to go to dinner. One day he showed up with an orange rose in a groovy orange vase with an orange ribbon. So pretty! Now that I think about it, maybe it was my birthday. I can’t remember, but it was the most modern flower arrangement I had ever seen.

Memory #3: Date night sometime while I was in college. Jeremy showed up to my parent’s house to pick me up for a date night. When I opened the front door he had a long-stemmed rose. The Bachelor style!

Memory #4: Valentine’s Day this year. Jeremy had a really tough week at school with tests and we hadn’t had a whole lot of extra time to spend together. The night before Valentine’s Day he had gone to Walmart at 3 a.m. and bought an oversized card and a dozen roses that he set out on the counter for me to wake up to in the morning. What a sweetie!

So there you have it, proof that my husband is the sweetest! I love him so much and am counting down the days until October 18th!
